boats slowly approached the contact area when suddenly we
were ambushed. Automatic weapons fire from the river bank opened up on
us, and an RPG (Rocket Propelled Grenade) hit the lead boat...

Davis and Richard McGovern were killed in that first boat. Lieutinent
Dennis Harrison, the 3rd Platoon Leader, was seriously wounded in the
attack on that lead boat. A South Vietnamese operator of our boat was
also wounded...
