Engaging the Enemy...

In the rice paddy...

Our boat moved to the river bank, the ramp was lowered and we ran off. We spread out and began walking across the vast rice paddy until we finally met up with the pinned down recon platoon.

Once there, most of our unit took cover behind a large dike. We received sporadic automatic weapons fire from the entrenched enemy in the woodline area to the front of us. We returned fire, and allowed the recon platoon to join us in our position.

The recon platoon's wounded were cared for, and several attempts were made to extract their platoon sergeant who was lying dead in a small grave yard to the left of our position. Each time an attempt was made, the enemy fired upon them, but several men finally succeeded in bringing him back to our location. One of the men who was bringing him back was shot in the leg. Soon, Cobra Gunships and Jet Fighters were called in to assault the enemy position in the Nippa Palm area...

As we walked across the rice paddy we noticed a couple of dead VC laying on the ground

We finally made it to the pinned down recon platoon...

We continued to fire upon the enemy, allowing the recon team to join us behind the main dike. Meanwhile, their platoon sergeant was still lying dead in the grave yard, and each time someone tried to get him, they were fired upon...

The Viet Cong move toward us...
