Another Veteran's Day is almost over. I've been allowed to enjoy over thirty of them since 1969. I can never let this day pass without remembering personal friends (A-Company and others) who were not so fortunate. Fellow Apache Warriors, I'm proud to have been a member of this unit. Not so much because of the quality of the soldiers in our group, but moreso because of the quality of the people. Hope you had a good Veteran's Day. God Bless each of you.

Steve Drewes was in my home area Friday (Charlotte,NC) and we met for a few minutes so he could show me the golf shirt that is to have the
A-5-12 logo embroidered on it. I think everyone will be pleased with the quality. They are made of a little heavier material than most golf shirts. They will be light gray in color, and should really look good. Since Steve still didn't have all the pricing details, we'll have to wait a little for that, but I'm sure he'd like to have a better idea of how many people are interested. So, if you haven't already done so, why not post a note in the Message Board section to let Steve know just how big the demand is.

Just checking in to see who's been here lately. Like others who were re-assigned in July '68, I have two affinities (4/12 & 5/12). Would like to connect with Jones, Guice (?), and Suzi from 4th-A-5/12 in '68. Still remember the night Suzi & I walked point all night for the batallion & Col. Ray was 1 squad behind us. We missed a 20 lb. Claymore that night (so we heard).

Merry Christmas Redcatchers...Thirty years ago today I was waiting for a freedom bird at the holding
area for short timers. Had turkey there on Xmas day and two days later I was attending the Oakland
Steak Feed. The only other act of kindness that day was when a driver in a 68 Chevy Belair, OD in
color stopped beside three of us waiting at a bus stop. He asked if we were waiting on a ride to LAX.
We said yes and he said jump in. He was on his to way to LAX to pick up some full bird and his wife.
They would never have guessed that three grunts warmed the back seat for them. I didn't see any
anti-war groups at LAX like we had heard about but the uniform and the tan in December got a few
stares from hairheads loitering around the stairs to the USO center there.
There's a scan of the 69 199th Xmas card on my site for anyone who would like to snag it.

I finally decided to sign the guest book on this Veterans day 11/11/99. I have visited the Web siite several time, but never signed the guest book. This site is so well done & Gary I have to give you alot of credit for the time & effort you have put into this. Thanks. One day when I was at our local convenience market, I sat in my car & really took a look at the young boys who were standing outside drinking soda & having a good time, laughing & joking around. I reflected on that moment & realized that my husband & all of the boys his age were in Viet Nam fighting for our freedom which we Americans enjoy today. The only difference between those boys at the store & you A/512 Vets & all others who served there is these boys wore jeans & sloppy shirts & you boys wore camo & carried guns. Just wanted to let you guys know what a wonderful thing you guys are doing here. My uncle was Geoff
Rudell (there's no E on the end). When he passed away I was his only niece(or nephew) born. Now
we are 18 strong and the closest family I have known or will ever know. I am so glad to get to see and read
about what the last few years of his life were like. However sad (or happy) it was. I am sure that I speak
for all the rest of us too. I see the sadness still in my grandparents eyes when we speak of him or ask
questions about his life and I know that they appreciate all you are doing a hundred times more than

Earl Stromberg (Stromy) contacted me in 1998 to inform me and has stayed in touch since. I was with the 5/12th in 69/70. I can't believe 30 years has passed since we were together.

Hi, I served with C Btry 2/40 Arty Oct.67-Sept.68 I would like to here from anyone I served with.
Great site! I have not seen too many Artillery buddies signed on. Remember the guys that followed the infantry
around with their 105mm. there dosen't seem to be much mention about them?? The 199th was a well trained
outfit and well remembered for they're accomplishments.

Was looking at Vietnam sites and stumbled onto this one. I was with the 11th ACR April-July 1970
and then assigned to 199LIB until it shutdown in October 1970. It seems like no one on the planet has ever
heard of either. It just makes me feel good know I wasn't just having a strange dream. Spent time at BMB, Fort
Apache(have a picture of the White Castle),Mace, VoDat, etc. Good work and I'm glad you all made it home.
